Green Wheat – Freekeh
Have you ever heard of green wheat? Me neither. I was at our neighbors home having Arabic coffee (much later in the evening than I should have had, mind you), but they put a bowl of this little green stuff in front of me and were trying to explain what it was all in Arabic. It had something to do with bread… so with a bit of research I realized we were eating raw wheat, essentially. Green wheat or freekeh, to be more exact. It was wonderful! Brings a whole new meaning to the passage of Scripture in the Luke 6:1 where Jesus and his disciples are walking through a grainfield and they pick a few heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels. I alway wondered about that verse thinking, yuck. That does not sound appetizing, but now… I wonder if they were raw or green. That would be pretty tasty!
